There are three main ways in which to find the information you need on SurreyOnline.info:
- Search – Allows you to use a single word but works better if you put in a group of words or a phrase related to your query. This may give a large selection of related topics for you to choose from, or will provide one or more options for you to narrow your search.
- Your local services A-Z – Use the A-Z if you want to choose from a wide ranging but specific list of subjects. Simply click on your choice to automatically select the most appropriate organisation relevant to your chosen subject. For example, ‘Noise - complaints’ takes you to district and borough councils who look after this topic.
- Advanced Search - Here you can refine your search: select particular organisations or categories, use specific phrases where all words must be used (or just linked) and you can even exclude certain words. This should give you a smaller, more targeted, result.
The search input box, at the top of our website, allows you to perform a simple search. You will have more success in searching upon a number of words or a phrase, rather than just one word.
If you don't find what you're looking for, you have the opportunity to use the Advanced search. This allows you to be more specific in your searching, and provides the opportunity to search across a particular area of the website content. For further information on how to use the search, please see our search tips.
The A-Z option gives you a list of services in alphabetical order, which allows you to see what services your local authorities provide. It will request you to select the area or town that you are interested in if you choose a service that is offered by individual districts and boroughs. For example, Abandoned Vehicles will take you to a map page for you to choose your area. If you select a service provided by a single organisation, such as Surrey Police or Surrey County Council you will be presented with a results page of the most appropriate information found. You can then choose the results most relevant to you.
If you are looking for a service that does not appear in the A-Z you can enter a keyword search into the text box supplied. For example, if you are looking for information on how to treat cockroaches and this does not appear in the list, type cockroaches in the keyword search box and you are presented with the appropriate category for your subject, which is ‘Pest Control.’
